Yeosu-si Implements Household Waste Management Measures During Lunar New Year Holiday Period
Garbage Collection Suspended on 12th and 13th
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 8th that it will implement the ‘Lunar New Year Holiday Household Waste Management Plan’ to minimize inconvenience to citizens and ensure a warm holiday in a clean and sanitary environment ahead of the Lunar New Year.
The city has been conducting cleanliness activities for the Lunar New Year from the 4th to the 10th and plans to carry out final cleaning activities on the 15th, after the holiday, to clean up the city streets that become disorderly during the holiday period.
During the four-day holiday, a ‘Comprehensive Situation Room for Household Waste Disposal Measures’ will be operated, and a ‘Mobile Household Waste Disposal Team’ composed of collection vehicles and sanitation workers will be deployed to promptly handle various cleaning-related complaints and minimize citizen inconvenience.
For the convenience of citizens, household waste collection during the holiday will be conducted normally on the 11th and 14th, the days before the Lunar New Year, while collection will be suspended only on the two days of the Lunar New Year, the 12th and 13th.
In addition, illegal dumping of waste will be intensively monitored in preparation for the holiday, and inspections will be conducted on large-scale food waste producers as well as general restaurants and collective catering facilities to supervise and inspect food waste discharge practices.

A city official said, “Since waste collection will be temporarily suspended for two days during the holiday, please check the waste collection schedule before disposal,” and added, “We ask for active participation in reducing the amount of waste by separating waste properly and preparing only the necessary amount of food to create a pleasant holiday atmosphere.”
