Current View of Jangteo-gil, Where Narrow Roads and Sidewalks Made Passage Difficult
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that compensation has been completed for the 40m section of Phase 1 in the Kumho Station Jangteo-gil expansion project, and building demolition is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.
The Jangteo-gil road from Kumho Station toward Geumnam Market has long been a site where demands for road expansion have been steadily raised due to sidewalk discontinuity and increased traffic volume over the past 30 years. The district has continuously worked to expand this road, which is a long-standing wish of the residents.
The 110m stretch of the area was divided into two sections, and road expansion has been promoted sequentially along with compensation in each section.
Once the construction, which began last year, is completed, the road width will be expanded from two lanes to three lanes, and sidewalks will be newly installed on both sides of the road. Compensation for the 70m second section is underway, with plans to complete the project by the end of this year.
Local residents, who had seen the road expansion project repeatedly fail since 2002, expressed disbelief and surprise as the project became a reality with building demolition, and have been voicing their expectations and support daily through the district office’s website and other channels.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Traffic safety, which can be directly linked to life, is a critical issue that cannot be neglected. Both pedestrians and drivers must be able to travel safely. Once the Jangteo-gil expansion is completed this year, traffic in the Kumho-dong area, the transportation hub connecting Gangnam and Gangbuk in Seoul, will improve significantly, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.”
