Bold Philippine Residents Involved in Drug Smuggling and Use Worth Over 170 Million Won... Multiple Prison Sentences Issued
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Six Filipino nationals who stayed in Korea and helped smuggle or directly used drugs worth about 170 million won were sentenced to imprisonment and probation.
On the 7th, the Criminal Division 2 of Changwon District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jeong-hyun) announced that it sentenced three people, including A (30), who were tried for violating the Narcotics Control Act, to 3 to 5 years in prison.
Three others, including B (25), who were tried for the same charges, were sentenced to 1 to 2 years and 6 months in prison with 2 to 4 years of probation.
They are accused of receiving drugs such as methamphetamine and ecstasy worth a total of 175.9 million won, which were delivered by plane from March to August last year, at a mart near their residence and distributing them domestically by hiding them in cigarette packs and other methods.
It was also confirmed that they directly used some of the drugs during this process.

The court stated, "Due to the nature of narcotics-related crimes, detection is difficult, the risk of recidivism is high, and the negative impact on society is significant," adding, "The smuggling of narcotics can lead to the spread of drugs within the country."
