Art and Craftsmen Meet to Bloom a New Alley Market Culture

Located next to the Samjin Fish Cake Yeongdo Main Branch, AREA6 is expected to play a catalyst role in revitalizing the commercial district and culture of Bongnae-dong, Yeongdo, Busan.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Cheol-hoon, Mayor of Yeongdo District, Shin Gi-sam, Chairman of Yeongdo District Council, Kim Jin-wook, Head of Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation Southern Center 1, Lee Dong-jae, Director of Korea Maritime and Fisheries Training Institute, Oh Kwang-seok, Professor at Korea Maritime University, Park Jong-soo, Chairman of Samjin Food, CEO Hwang Chang-hwan, Director Lee Geum-bok, and Park Yong-jun, CEO of Samjin International.
The event was held both offline and online live in compliance with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
The opening was enriched with busking performances (simultaneously online), Artijang Box giveaway events, Artijang Market, and a special exhibition titled ‘AREA6, ON’.
In the future, AREA6 plans to offer diverse programs such as free markets, one-day classes, exhibitions, and events in collaboration with ‘Artijang’.
‘Artijang’ is a coined term combining ‘artist’ and ‘artisan,’ referring to individuals who, based on artisan skills, protect brands and products that have long been established in the region and have the potential to grow as artisans.
Additionally, AREA6 will maximize synergy by linking with the Startup Support Center, part of the Yeongdo District urban regeneration project located next to AREA6. The Yeongdo Startup Support Center is scheduled to open in March.

AREA6 was planned under the concept of ‘Artijang Alley that Illuminates the Local.’ It was born in an old traditional market alley that darkens after 6 p.m., providing bright light and leading regional revitalization as a local culture platform.
