Yeosu Police Share Acts of Love for Lunar New Year Holiday
Targeting North Korean Defectors Feeling Lonely and Missing Their Hometown During the Traditional Korean Holiday Seollal
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Police Station (Chief Moon Byung-hoon) and the Security Advisory Council (Chairman Kim Seok-ho) held an event on the 5th to welcome the Lunar New Year by inviting North Korean defectors who miss their families and hometowns. The event took place the previous day in the Yeosu Police Station's small conference room, attended by the police chief, the chairman of the Security Advisory Council, and 10 others, including North Korean defectors. They presented gift certificates worth approximately 5 million won and exchanged well-wishes for the upcoming holiday.
This event was organized to comfort North Korean defectors' longing for their hometowns and to encourage them as they strive to settle in our society despite difficult circumstances.
Moon Byung-hoon, Chief of Yeosu Police Station, stated, “In response to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, Yeosu Police Station and the Security Advisory Council will take the lead in providing practical assistance to North Korean defectors who are in difficult situations.”
Kim Seok-ho, Chairman of the Yeosu Police Station Security Advisory Council, who co-hosted the event, said, “We will cooperate closely with Yeosu Police Station and provide generous support to ensure the stable settlement of North Korean defectors.”
