Gyeongnam Province Launches 'Foreign Resident' Support Center... Education Counseling and Cultural Welfare Programs
Foreign Resident Employees from 6 Asian Countries Working... Native Language Consultation Available
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The 'Gyeongsangnam-do Foreign Resident Support Center,' established to support the stay and settlement of foreign residents living in Gyeongnam Province, began full-scale activities on the 4th.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as of 2019, there are approximately 135,000 foreign residents living in Gyeongnam. The number of foreign residents was about 123,000 in 2018, showing an increasing trend every year.
The Gyeongnam 'Foreign Resident Support Center' will promote various projects including counseling services on legal issues and grievances, educational programs on Korean language and foreign resident capabilities, cultural projects such as visiting performances, welfare projects including housing environment improvement and free medical treatment, as well as COVID-19 response efforts.
Six foreign resident staff members from six countries?Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Cambodia, and Sri Lanka?also work here, allowing consultations in their native languages.

Park Ildong, Director of the Women, Family, and Children Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, stated, "Going forward, the Foreign Resident Support Center will contribute not only to support for foreign residents through counseling, education, cultural and welfare projects, and COVID-19 response, but also to social integration through communication with local residents."
