[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 4th that it has swiftly disbursed 7.6 billion KRW in emergency livelihood stabilization funds to about 9,700 business operators in industries subject to gathering bans and restrictions, and about 830 special-type workers and freelancers, according to the 4th regional economic revitalization measures announced in January.
The city mobilized all available budgets to provide urgent "pinpoint support" considering the difficulties of the local economy ahead of the Lunar New Year.
For 1,200 business operators in gathering-ban industries under the 2.5-level social distancing administrative order, such as entertainment bars, bathhouses, karaoke rooms, and indoor sports facilities, 1 million KRW was provided; for 8,500 business operators in gathering-restricted industries such as restaurants, cafes, beauty salons, academies (including private tutoring centers), reading rooms, and small supermarkets, 700,000 KRW was supported; and for about 830 special-type workers and freelancers, 500,000 KRW in livelihood stabilization funds was paid.
To ensure the fastest support, the city prioritized payments through eligibility screening without separate applications for gathering-ban and restricted business operators, special-type workers, and freelancers who had received livelihood stabilization funds in Jinju City's 1st to 3rd emergency economic measures.
Business operators excluded from the first rapid payment can apply by February 15 to receive the support funds.
The city plans to inject vitality into the local economy by urgently supporting 500,000 KRW and 1 million KRW respectively to corporate taxi drivers and charter bus drivers, who had been previously excluded from support, and 1 million KRW to cultural and artistic groups and artists before the Lunar New Year holiday.
Mayor Cho Gyu-il stated, "Although the city has supported emergency economic measures four times, we are well aware that it is insufficient to restore daily life and the economy," and added, "As we have coped well with the COVID-19 situation together with citizens so far, we will continue to move forward vigorously for economic recovery."
