Government Welcomes US-Russia Extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The government welcomed on the 4th the extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), which limits the number of nuclear weapons between the United States and Russia, until 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a spokesperson's comment on the same day, "The government welcomes the agreement by the governments of the United States and Russia to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty for five years," and added, "We assess that this agreement will contribute to strengthening the international nuclear non-proliferation regime based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to international peace and stability."
