The abundant achievements in the first year of Dongmyung University's ‘Service Learning’?a learning program through close community service?are gaining attention.
Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) recently selected the Onure Team (Team Leader Lee Chae-young), composed of five students from the Department of Visual Design, as the outstanding team at the final report and evaluation meeting of the 2020 New Project ‘Service Learning’ under the University Innovation Support Project.
The report meeting was held on January 29 at Aqua Palace in Gwangalli, hosted by Professor Lee Ji-eun of the University Innovation Support Project Group.
Representatives from local organizations including Busan Dawn Market Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Hyo-soon), Seomyeon General Market Promotion Association (Chairman Woo Jeong-do of the Merchant Association), Sorinara Language Development Center (Director Jang Sung-wook), Women’s Rights Support Center ‘Sallim’ (Executive Director Byun Jeong-hee), and Masil Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Tae-gyu) attended to judge and discuss activation plans for the Busan area.
A total of 24 ‘Service Learners’ from five departments participated in Dongmyung University’s 2020 Service Learning. These students were enrolled in service learning courses.
Service Learners conducted volunteer activities linked to their majors at various institutions, developing expertise through reflection on real-world issues.
They also produced results such as package production, online mall promotion plans, and early diagnosis of child language development.
The Onure Team from the Visual Design Department’s Portfolio Production course (Professor Kim Jae-ik) conducted research on delivery packaging design for Goejeong Alley Market.
The Dudream Team from the Department of Distribution Management’s Service Marketing course (Professor Noh Jeong-gu) derived activation plans for Goejeong Alley delivery by analyzing stores registered on the Goejeong Alley delivery app as an extension of their course.
The Hope Dream Team from the Department of Speech Therapy and Audiology’s Language Diagnosis Practice course (Professor Kim Ki-joo) early detected and intervened with children from vulnerable groups at risk of delayed language development and learning difficulties. Preventive approaches were possible through community service.
The Gaegum To You Team from the Department of Social Welfare’s Social Welfare Field Practice course (Professor Yoon Ki-hyuk) produced card news to promote programs of the Gaegum Comprehensive Social Welfare Center to local residents.
The Department of Beauty Industry, where adult learners are enrolled, conducted creative volunteer activities by accumulating practical experience in performance and broadcasting through makeup activities at Motungi Theater, which shifted to on-tact cultural events due to COVID-19, in the Cosmetics and Makeup course (Professor Tae Dong-sook).
Dongmyung University’s Service Learning (TU-SL) is a new project in the university’s second year of the University Innovation Support Project, combining Service and Learning.
TU-SL aims for 3S (Sustainable, Simple, Stay). Service Learning is already a common concept in universities in the United States.
