Woo Sang-ho "Talk with Geum Tae-seop? Park Young-sun should retract her remarks"
"Democratic Party's 'Broad Embrace' Hard to Agree with in Hugging Candidate Geum Tae-seop"
Rep. Woo Sang-ho Criticizes Former Minister Park Young-sun of SMEs and Startups
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Woo Sang-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea running for the Seoul mayoral by-election, directly criticized former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun, a competing candidate, for saying she wants to "talk with Geum Tae-seop," saying, "I hope she retracts her statement."
On the 2nd, former Minister Park appeared on MBC Radio’s ‘Pyo Chang-won’s News High Kick’ and said, "(Former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop) has often spoken about difficult issues within the party and faced many attacks, but I think it is very important for us to embrace that and show the Democratic Party’s broad-mindedness."
In response to former Minister Park’s remarks, Rep. Woo criticized, "I find it hard to agree with the idea that embracing a candidate like (Geum Tae-seop) shows the Democratic Party’s 'broad-mindedness.'"
He explained, "Candidate Geum Tae-seop was a member of the Democratic Party of Korea but lost the primary to Rep. Kang Sun-woo in the 21st general election and subsequently left the party," adding, "He is currently pursuing a three-way unification with the People Power Party candidate and Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party." He also questioned former Minister Park, saying, "If we have to embrace someone just because they were once part of the same party, shouldn’t that apply equally to Ahn Cheol-soo, Chairman Kim Jong-in, and candidate Lee Eon-ju?"
Rep. Woo pointed out, "Participating in the three-way unification means joining the so-called 'anti-Moon Jae-in coalition' to shake the presidency," and added, "I find it hard to agree that embracing such a candidate shows the Democratic Party’s broad-mindedness."
