Choi Hyung-sik, Damyang County Governor, Expresses Position on Universal Disaster Relief Payments
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Choi Hyungsik, the mayor of Damyang County, expressed his position on the payment of Damyang-type emergency disaster relief funds on the 1st.
Mayor Choi stated in a press release that “While I acknowledge the necessity of universal payment of disaster relief funds, I regret that we could not provide the funds initially due to unfavorable financial conditions.”
He continued, “Due to unprecedented heavy rains last year, the county’s financial burden has greatly increased, and there is an absolute shortage of county funds to cover damage recovery, permanent countermeasures, and mandatory obligations for various pending projects.”
Mayor Choi said, “For the disaster relief funds to be paid much more smoothly, the government needs to establish universal measures and work together with local governments. Therefore, for now, we will focus on quarantine and pending projects and will consider the local government’s financial burden when the government-level disaster relief funds are implemented soon.”
