High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Confirmed at Laying Hen Farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] A highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) case has been confirmed at a laying hen farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza (CDSCH) announced on the 30th that after conducting a detailed examination of the laying hen farm in Icheon where the H5 antigen was detected the previous day, it was confirmed to be the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain.
The CDSCH carried out preventive culling of poultry raised within a 3 km radius of the outbreak site. Additionally, movement restrictions and comprehensive inspections will be enforced for 30 days on poultry farms within a 10 km radius. All poultry farms in Icheon will have movement restrictions for 7 days.

A CDSCH official emphasized, "It is most important that farm owners strictly adhere to basic quarantine guidelines," and urged, "Please thoroughly implement daily measures such as applying slaked lime, cleaning and disinfecting farmyards, changing boots, and disinfecting the interior of poultry houses."
