Dongdaemun-gu Accelerates Promotion of Everyone's Happy Women-Friendly City
Yoo Deok-yeol, Dongdaemun District Mayor, Signs Non-Face-to-Face Agreement with Ministry of Gender Equality and Family for New Women-Friendly City Designation... Full-Scale Implementation of 42 Policy Projects to Expand Women's Social Participation by 2025
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) has signed a 'New Designation Agreement for Women-Friendly Cities' with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, accelerating efforts to create a women-friendly city.
On the afternoon of the 29th, Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu attended the signing ceremony held in a non-face-to-face format using the real-time video conferencing system ZOOM at the district office's planning situation room. The ceremony was attended by Minister Jeong Young-ae of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and 23 heads of local governments (including government award-winning local governments and newly/re-designated local governments).
On this day, Mayor Yoo signed the agreement which included ▲ joint discovery and promotion of gender equality policy projects for national and regional development ▲ mutual cooperation for spreading a culture of gender equality and creating women-friendly cities ▲ promotion and education to raise public interest and consensus on women-friendly cities.
Through this agreement, Dongdaemun-gu decided to actively promote specialized projects to strengthen women's capacity for community activities and lay the foundation for a women-friendly city.
Accordingly, over the next five years (2021?2025), under the slogan ‘Happy Dongdaemun for All Families, Let’s Be Together! Women-Friendly,’ the district will actively pursue five major goals and 42 policy projects for creating a women-friendly city, including ▲ expanding women's economic and social participation through the revitalization of the Seoul Oriental Medicine Promotion Center ▲ creating women-safe villages ▲ installing and operating neighborhood care centers without blind spots in care, thereby building a women-friendly city that residents can truly feel.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “We must become a society where no one is discriminated against or marginalized because they are women,” and added, “We will do our best to create a women-friendly city where women have increased opportunities for economic activity and social participation, and where all residents are happy.”

Dongdaemun-gu achieved the great success of being selected as a women-friendly city at the end of last year as a result of efforts by both the public and private sectors working together, including increasing women's opportunities for social participation and forming resident participation groups and consultative bodies.
