'Investigation Confidentiality Leak' by Sitting Judges... Acquitted Again in Second Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Incumbent chief judges who were prosecuted on charges of leaking investigation records related to the 2016 'Jung Unho Gate' case were acquitted again in the appellate trial.
On the 29th, the Criminal Division 8 of the Seoul High Court (Chief Judges Lee Gyunyong, Lee Seungcheol, and Lee Byeonghee) acquitted Chief Judges Shin Gwangryeol, Jo Uiyeon, and Seong Changho, who were prosecuted on charges of official secret leakage, in the appellate trial.
The court stated, "There is insufficient evidence that the defendants attempted to obstruct the investigation of the Jung Unho Gate case," and "It cannot be recognized that other judges conspired with Chief Judge Shin, the senior criminal chief judge, by reporting the warrant processing as part of the report, and the charges based on conspiracy are judged as not guilty."
