Gangdong-gu Myeongil Station Food Alley Reborn as Myeongridan-gil
Installation of symbolic guide sculptures naming four alleys Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter paths... Creating pedestrian-friendly and safe walking routes with string lights to enliven the area
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is promoting a specialized project in the food alley near Exit 2 of Myeongil Station to revitalize the alley commercial district struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and changes in commercial areas.
The Myeongil Station food alley is adjacent to Myeongil Station on Subway Line 5 and has been classified as a representative area with a large floating population due to the formation of large-scale residential complexes.
Also, with about 100 stores spread across four alleys, it is an area where residents and merchants have high expectations for commercial district revitalization.
Accordingly, Gangdong-gu transformed a 400m section of the side road around the Myeongil Station food alley into a pedestrian-priority road that is easy to walk on and safe by installing eco-friendly road pavement and traffic facilities in July last year.
This year, reflecting merchants' opinions, the new name of the Myeongil Station food alley was designated as 'Myeongridan-gil.'
In addition, to enhance visitors' convenience, guide sculptures symbolizing the four seasons?spring, summer, autumn, and winter?were installed in the four alleys, bringing vitality to the alleys.
Especially, string lights were installed in the previously dark and dull alleys to create a brighter and more vibrant street atmosphere.
Gangdong-gu plans to continuously promote projects such as street beautification involving residents and discovering unique festivals exclusive to Myeongridan-gil to further revitalize the Myeongil Station food alley (Myeongridan-gil).
