[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Inha University has been selected for the 'Regional Specialized Trade Expert Training Project (GTEP)' organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the sixth consecutive time.

Accordingly, Inha University will operate the project for three years from this year until 2024, promoting specialization in e-commerce export support.

The GTEP project is an industry-academia cooperation project organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and commissioned and operated by the Korea International Trade Association. Each year, university students interested in trade are selected and trained as young trade experts by combining practical knowledge and field experience over 15 months.

Since starting the 1st Global Trade Expert Training Project in 2007, Inha University has trained about 400 prospective experts over 14 years and has won the GTEP e-commerce competition grand prize for two consecutive years.

Through this project, about 200 local manufacturing companies and social enterprises lacking export capabilities have entered exports and global e-commerce platforms. Forty companies, including cosmetics manufacturers, have succeeded in entering local markets such as Europe, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia, as well as global e-commerce platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Shopee.

Jung In-gyo, head of the Inha University GTEP project team, said, "The application of 4th industrial revolution technologies and the activation of non-face-to-face transactions triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic urgently require a new trade paradigm and trade education." He added, "Inha University will focus on training trade talents tailored to this and strengthening the e-commerce export capabilities of local small and medium-sized enterprises."
