[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Joe Biden, President of the United States, has signed four executive orders aimed at addressing racial inequality, continuing his strong commitment to undoing the policies of the Trump administration. In particular, he promised to eradicate hate incidents against Asian American residents.
On the 26th (local time), President Biden signed four executive orders related to racial discrimination at the White House. Since taking office, President Biden has been signing executive orders on different topics every day. On the 25th, he signed the "Buy America" order; on this day, orders on racial equality; on the 27th, climate change; on the 28th, health insurance; and on the 29th, immigration-related executive orders were signed or scheduled.
After signing the executive orders, President Biden pointed out that hate against Asian Americans has significantly increased amid the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and directed federal agencies to take strong measures against xenophobia.
He emphasized, "This is unacceptable, and this is not America," adding, "I have asked the Department of Justice to strengthen partnerships with Asian Americans."
President Biden also referred to the case of George Floyd, a Black man who died after being choked by a white police officer last year, calling it "a turning point in this country's attitude toward racial equality and an event that opened the eyes of millions of Americans and people around the world."
