Gwangjin-gu Residents Enroll in Life Safety Insurance... Compensation Up to 2 Million Won
Automatic Enrollment from February for All Gwangjin-gu Residents Without Separate Registration... Compensation for Medical Expenses from Accidents Resulting Directly in Injury Regardless of Victim's Fault
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has enrolled in the Resident Life Safety Insurance to establish a systematic measure for livelihood stabilization and compensation for residents who suffer from unexpected various safety accidents.
Since last year, the district has been preparing for the implementation of the Life Safety Insurance by enacting the Resident Life Safety Insurance Operation Ordinance and reviewing it to avoid overlap with Seoul City's Citizen Safety Insurance.
Unlike the fixed-amount compensation in the form of condolence money for death and permanent disability, which is implemented by most autonomous districts, this insurance covers accident medical expenses to be more helpful to residents in their daily lives.
The Gwangjin-gu Life Safety Insurance automatically enrolls all residents registered in the district and benefits can be received starting from February 1.
It is also possible to receive overlapping payments with individually subscribed actual medical expense insurance, and claims can be made within three years from the date of occurrence for accidents that happen during the insurance period (residence period in Gwangjin-gu).
The coverage includes medical expenses for funeral and emergency costs, treatment, surgery, X-ray examinations, dental treatment, hospitalization, etc., directly resulting from injury regardless of the victim's fault. The compensation limit is up to 2 million KRW per person (with a 30,000 KRW deductible per claim). However, medical expenses due to illness, traffic accidents, industrial accidents, accidents caused by bicycles and personal mobility devices, and accidents that can be compensated through other liability insurance or national support funds are excluded from coverage.
