Appointment of Copyright Committee Members Including Professors Moon Sun-young and Lee Dae-hee
Choi Byung-gu, Former Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Appointed as Chairman
On the 25th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed twelve members to the Korea Copyright Commission. The appointees include Moon Seon-young, Professor of Law at Sookmyung Women's University; Park Ji-young, Deputy Chief Prosecutor at Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office; Shim Jae-hoon, Lawyer at Hyemyeong Law Firm; Lee Dae-hee, Professor at Korea University Law School; Moon Cheol-gi, Lawyer at Yosan Law Office; Oh Hye-ja, Director of Cheongju Chorongine Library; Woo Jin-young, Professor at Korea National University of Cultural Heritage; Lee Gyu-ho, Professor at Chung-Ang University Law School; Lee Eun-woo, Lawyer at Kwangjang Law Firm; Jeong Ji-seok, Lawyer at Namgang Law Firm; Cha Mi-young, Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; and Choi Byung-gu, former Director of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's General Affairs Office. They will handle tasks including mediation and arbitration of copyright disputes, review of fees and royalty rates for copyright consignment management agencies, establishment of copyright usage order, and promotion of fair use of copyrighted works. Their term lasts three years, until January 24, 2024. An official explained, "The commission is composed of experts from academia, the legal profession, science and technology, and culture and arts to appropriately respond to changes in the copyright environment and to balance various interests." Meanwhile, the Copyright Commission held a plenary meeting on the same day and appointed Choi Byung-gu as the 5th Chairman.
