This system is equipment that automatically controls traffic signals at the traffic control center by detecting the location of emergency vehicles such as fire trucks in advance, allowing them to pass through intersections without stopping.
When a fire truck approaches, the traffic signals all turn green through the central control center. Among the 23 cities and counties in Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongju City is the first to have such a system in place.
The operational section covers all intersections in the downtown area from Dongguk University Gyeongju Hospital to Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital for ambulances. It has been in pilot operation since December last year, and after addressing any issues, it plans to begin full operation in March.
In particular, on the 17th of last month and the 21st of this month, joint 'Fire Truck Passage Training' was conducted with the Gyeongju Fire Station and Gyeongju Police Station, during which performance evaluations were held twice.
The city plans to expand the system to all intersections based on operational evaluations and results. With the introduction of this system, the city expects the arrival time of emergency vehicles at the scene and hospital transport time to be reduced by an average of 40 to 50% compared to before.
