Situation Review Meeting on the Afternoon of the 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, held a situation assessment meeting regarding the fishing vessel sinking accident that occurred in the waters off Geoje, Gyeongnam, on the afternoon of the 23rd, and stated that all available resources would be mobilized to do their best in rescuing lives.
On the 24th, Minister Jeon held a meeting at the Central Disaster and Safety Situation Room at 5 p.m. and after confirming the rescue situation, he said, "We will do our best to rescue lives by mobilizing all available resources," and urged that the families of the missing be informed in detail about the rescue situation and that special attention be paid to the safety of the rescue workers.
Earlier, at around 3:45 p.m. on the 23rd, the fishing vessel '127 Daeyangho (339t)' sank due to bad weather about 1.1 km southeast off Geoje City, Gyeongnam. Of the 10 crew members on board, 7 were rescued, but 3 went missing.
After the fishing vessel sank, the relevant authorities have been conducting search operations for the missing persons for the second day, but no results have been reported. The Tongyeong Coast Guard expanded the search area to a 20 km radius from the accident site and deployed 21 patrol boats for the search operation. On land, 17 people, including 5 firefighting personnel, are searching the surrounding area.
