[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Maesil, a specialty product of Gurye, Jeonnam, has taken its first step into the Chinese market.
According to Gurye County on the 20th, on the 14th, the Korea-China Urban Development Alliance, centered around Gurye County Griol Food Agricultural Cooperative Corporation (CEO Lee Jonghyun) and China Hanbokdeok International Trade Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as K-Food Co., Ltd.), signed an export contract for maesil syrup.
The Korea-China Urban Development Alliance, established in 2019, is an organization where six Korean and Chinese cities jointly form an international platform to build international resources and development energy, enrich urban cooperation achievements, and enhance international influence.
On the Korean side, Gurye County in Jeonnam, Hadong County and Namhae County in Gyeongnam are members, while on the Chinese side, Chengyang District of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, Laixi City of Shandong Province, and Guanling Autonomous County of Anshun City, Guizhou Province are members.
Although the Korea-China Urban Development Alliance could not have direct exchanges last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it held the 2nd representatives’ video conference and continuously conducted international exchange projects through online export consultations.
The export contract signed this time is for 1,200 bottles of maesil syrup. Since the export volume will be continuously increased depending on local consumer response, it is regarded as a positive sign for expanding export routes to China in the future.
County Governor Kim Sunho said, “Despite many difficulties in agricultural production and exports due to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters last year, we were able to open export paths through the active efforts of both farmers and export companies,” and added, “We will revitalize the shrinking export market through diversified efforts such as diversifying export markets and adding export items.”
