Dongdaemun-gu, First Publication of Youth Development Center Performance Report Book
Production of Policy Report Document Capturing Localized Youth Agenda Discovery and Solution Exploration Process... Establishing Youth Policy Governance System Through Policies by Youth, for Youth, and of Youth
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) has published a performance report documenting the process in which youth proactively discover region-specific youth agendas and seek solutions.
The report consists of two parts: the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Youth Policy Network’ (hereafter ‘Dongcheongnet’) and the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Youth Challenge Project Innovation Station D.’ It fully reflects the path Dongcheongnet has taken, including the trials, errors, and solutions experienced while participating in public contest projects.
This performance report is especially meaningful as the first policy report that captures the process of youth actively participating, discovering various youth policies, and directly planning and implementing projects.
The youth who participated in the projects unanimously stated, “Although there were unexpected trials and errors during the process, gathering opinions with peers and pushing the projects forward provided an invaluable opportunity for growth, and especially deepened our affectionate interest in Dongdaemun-gu.”
The district expects this performance report to serve as a catalyst for this year’s Dongcheongnet activities, greatly contributing to the creation and spread of youth policies and youth culture in Dongdaemun-gu, as well as the revitalization of youth communities.
The district will place the performance report at community service centers and Dongsa-gyeong centers, distributing it to related organizations and other local governments to share the achievements and problem-solving processes of Dongdaemun-gu’s youth policies.
Prior to publishing the report, Dongdaemun-gu launched Dongcheongnet in December 2019, formed the Dongcheongnet project team in April 2020, and began full-scale youth policy discovery at the Dongsa-gyeong center.
Furthermore, to establish effective youth policies tailored to the perspectives of local youth, 22 rounds of online and offline deliberative public discussions were held to collect diverse opinions and ideas. As a result, in 2021, two projects?‘Activation of Dongdaemun-gu Youth Policy Governance’ and ‘Planning Team for Strengthening Dongdaemun-gu Youth Core’?were discovered and proposed as part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Youth Autonomous Budget Policy, securing 180 million KRW in city funds.
