Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-su) and Kosin University (President Ahn Min) recently established a smart medical system for mild COVID-19 patients.
The Pukyong National University 4th Industrial Revolution Innovation Leading University Project Group and Kosin University Gospel Hospital announced on the 18th that, together with companies such as LG Electronics, they have built and started operating a smart medical system utilizing advanced digital technology at the Busan 3rd Residential Treatment Center.
The Busan 3rd Residential Treatment Center has been operating since the end of last December at Pukyong National University Yongdang Campus Gwanggaeto Hall, accommodating local mild COVID-19 patients.
According to the smart medical method, mild COVID-19 patients admitted here can measure data such as body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate, and even undergo low-dose X-ray imaging using smart devices without leaving their rooms.
Medical staff remotely monitor the real-time status information of all patients, and if abnormalities occur in specific patients, they immediately contact or provide treatment. If a patient's condition worsens, they are transferred to a hospital.
Professors volunteering from Kosin University Gospel Hospital are dispatched to the center to treat patients, and researchers from Pukyong National University's Department of Biomedical Engineering utilize the remote cloud environment and IT infrastructure established at the center to measure patient data and provide it to medical staff.
Companies also contributed: LG Electronics provided portable low-dose X-ray devices and high-sensitivity detector technology. Viva Innovation and JLK offered video consultation systems, artificial intelligence diagnostic systems, and electronic chart systems free of charge.
Such a smart medical system at the Busan 3rd Residential Treatment Center is known to significantly enhance patient satisfaction with medical services.
Recently, using the low-dose X-ray system, pneumonia in patients was detected before symptoms worsened, enabling timely transfer to hospitals, effectively managing patients and ensuring medical staff safety.
Professor Ahn Ye-chan, head of the Pukyong National University 4th Industrial Revolution Innovation Leading University Project Group, said, "This is the first attempt to utilize smart healthcare for infectious disease response through collaboration among hospitals, universities, and companies," adding, "We expect this case to greatly aid the development of related technologies and systems as well as the training of professionals."
