The Main Trend of the Concluded CES is 'Smart Home' Appliances
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] As the world's largest electronics exhibition 'CES 2021' came to a close, smart home appliances emerged as a major trend this year. With the establishment of a contactless culture due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), products that assist with various tasks inside the home gained attention.
According to the industry on the 16th, about 1,200 companies showcased smart home-related products at this year's CES. Not only smart home products but also solutions that make home life more comfortable were introduced in large numbers.
Samsung Electronics unveiled a large number of new smart home appliances under the theme 'A Better Daily Life for All.' With increased time spent at home, smart functions for gaming, health, movies, and more were significantly enhanced.
For TVs, improvements such as reduced input lag, support for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and 4K 120Hz were made to enable better gaming visuals. This hardware enhancement for improved game image quality is expanding across the industry. Samsung introduced specialized products providing cloud gaming services such as Google 'Stadia,' MS Xbox Cloud, and NVIDIA 'GeForce Now.'
There has also been an increase in companies enhancing training services like Samsung Health's 'Smart Trainer,' smart monitors for remote work, and content recommendation features for online video services (OTT).
LG Electronics evolved its intelligent lifestyle platform, the LG ThinQ application, to offer various linked services including food and after-sales service. The company is expanding LG ThinQ as a platform that presents new lifestyles to customers. It introduced AI cooking functions in collaboration with the U.S. smart meal kit company Tovala.
This function allows customers to scan the barcode on the meal kit packaging with the LG ThinQ app, and the oven automatically sets the optimal cooking method. Customers can also purchase Tovala meal kits within the LG ThinQ app.
LG Electronics plans to collaborate with various companies such as global food companies Nestl?, Kraft Heinz, and home service provider HomeAdvisor within this year. Additionally, it will realize the actual smart home experience by linking products such as the 'LG Seamless InstaView' refrigerator, Tromm WashTower washer and dryer, and TVs.
