Biden: "Expanding Vaccinations Led by the Federal Government"
Enforcement of the Defense Materials Production Act to Expand Vaccination Coverage
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Baek Jong-min] President-elect Joe Biden announced on the 15th (local time) that the federal government will take the lead in expanding COVID-19 vaccinations to respond to the novel coronavirus infection.
According to U.S. media such as The Wall Street Journal, Biden made the announcement during a speech on COVID-19 response in Wilmington, Delaware, pointing out that "we are in a very dark winter."
Biden said the federal government will actively intervene without shifting the responsibility of vaccination to state governments. He described it as "the most challenging operation America has ever experienced."
He stated that the Defense Production Act will be used to expand the supply of syringes, needles, vials, and various equipment necessary for vaccination to private companies.
Biden emphasized that he plans to establish thousands of community vaccination centers and aims to vaccinate 100 million people within 100 days of taking office.
