The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Raises Lunar New Year Agricultural, Livestock, and Seafood Gift Limit from 100,000 to 200,000 Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] During this year's Lunar New Year holiday period, the upper limit for gifts of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products that public officials subject to the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act can receive will be temporarily raised from the current 100,000 won to 200,000 won.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission held a plenary meeting at the Government Seoul Office on the 15th and approved the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act (the Act on the Prohibition of Improper Solicitation and Receipt of Money and Valuables) reflecting this change.
The Commission decided to temporarily increase the gift value range for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products and processed products during this year's Lunar New Year from the current 100,000 won to 200,000 won. They plan to expedite the legislative procedures, including the Cabinet meeting scheduled for the 19th.
The current Improper Solicitation and Graft Act limits the upper limit of gifts that can be given and received by public officials related to their duties to 50,000 won, and for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products to 100,000 won.
This year, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), related ministries and heads of farmers, fishermen, and small business organizations have visited the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission to request an increase in the gift value range.
