Assemblyman Kim Jeong-ho Calls for Adequate Financial Compensation for Residents Affected by Airport Noise
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jucheol In] A bill to compensate residents of surrounding areas for damages caused by airport noise is being prepared.
Kim Jeong-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Gyeongnam Gimhae-eul), has taken the lead in proposing the "Airport Noise 3 Acts." These three acts refer to the amendments to the Airport Noise Prevention Act, the Military Noise Compensation Act, and the Burden Management Act.
According to Rep. Kim on the 15th, the amendment to the Airport Noise Prevention Act establishes a legal basis for monetary compensation to residents affected by airport noise and includes medical and health support projects in the resident support programs.
Under the current law, although residents in surrounding areas suffer damage from airport noise, there is insufficient legal basis for noise damage compensation.
Rep. Kim stated that this amendment was prepared to establish a legal basis for airport noise damage.
The amendment to the Military Airport Noise Act stipulates support measures such as resident welfare projects and income enhancement projects for residents affected by noise from military airfields, in addition to the existing compensation payments.
There have been repeated criticisms that residents affected by noise from military airfields and military shooting ranges do not receive sufficient compensation as they are not supported by resident welfare projects.
Through the amendment, Rep. Kim made it possible for residents in military airport noise countermeasure areas to be eligible for resident support projects such as soundproofing facilities and cooling facilities.
The amendment to the Burden Management Act is a subsidiary bill to the Military Airport Noise Act amendment, proposed to specifically regulate the noise burden newly established by the amendment to the Military Airport Noise Compensation Act and to clarify its legal basis.
