Busan City Establishes 'One-Stop Support System' for Child Abuse Response
Strengthening Functions of the Child Protection Comprehensive Center... Specialized Training for Dedicated Officials and Activation of Prevention Programs

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A ‘one-stop’ support system to respond to child abuse will be established in Busan.
The Busan Child Protection Comprehensive Center announced on the 15th that it will establish a child abuse response system and operate an optimal support system for protecting abused children.
Earlier, on January 12, Acting Mayor Byeon Seong-wan of Busan visited the Child Protection Comprehensive Center to conduct an emergency inspection of Busan’s child abuse response progress.
Acting Mayor Byeon urged public institutions to actively intervene in child abuse cases and to further strengthen the center’s functions to protect abused children and restore the family’s caregiving foundation.
The Child Protection Comprehensive Center recently decided to strengthen basic and advanced training courses to compensate for the lack of experience and expertise of public officials dedicated to child abuse, as raised by the media.
The center plans to provide active investigation accompaniment and case-specific consultation for district and county officials who face difficulties in field investigations and case judgments.
The enhanced training curriculum includes guidance on laws and guidelines, counseling and investigation techniques, emergency response methods, introduction to service providers that can be linked, how to prepare legal documents such as investigation requests and child protection order petitions, and understanding pathological symptoms (anger control disorder, depression, ADHD, etc.).
Additionally, the center will analyze child abuse cases reported and received over the past three years by type to develop educational content and expand education for 25 occupational groups who are mandatory reporters of child abuse.
Parenting classes will be permanently operated in 16 districts and counties to strengthen positive interactions between parents and children, aiming to prevent and stop child abuse within families.
The center also implements psychological testing and therapy conducted directly by experts visiting children to minimize the serious aftereffects of abuse experienced during childhood and support healthy growth.
Professional counselors will directly visit families of abused children to provide parenting coaching services and actively promote family function enhancement projects.
