Gangnam-gu Yeoksam Underground Passage Reborn as a 'Fine Dust Free Zone'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has transformed the once bleak Yeoksam underground walkway into a pleasant urban garden.
Since last year, Gangnam-gu has been creating the underground walkways as 'Fine Dust Free Zones' so that citizens can freely walk and exercise regardless of air quality.
Following the Cheongdam Station and Seolleung underground walkways, this year a 125-meter section of the Yeoksam underground walkway was designed as a nature-friendly space.
As the name Fine Dust Free Zone suggests, the core feature is equipment that blocks and purifies fine dust. Using plasma-type air purifiers, air conditioners, and various air-purifying plants, it sterilizes, deodorizes, and removes over 90% of fine dust to create a breathable environment.
Additionally, cool water sounds flow at different times, and the subtle scent of cypress phytoncide spreads, providing users with an optimal resting environment.
