'Like a Pro Photographer'... Samsung Electronics Launches Premium Image Sensor 'ISOCELL HM3'
Equipped with 'Smart ISO Pro'... 'Bright and Clear Image Capture'
Featuring Optimized Autofocus Lens with 'Super PD Plus'
Preview Mode Power Consumption Reduced by Approximately 6% Compared to Previous Models
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Electronics announced on the 15th that it has launched the 108-megapixel image sensor 'ISOCELL HM3' equipped with cutting-edge high-sensitivity imaging technology.
'ISOCELL HM3' is Samsung Electronics' 3rd generation 0.8μm (micrometer, one-millionth of a meter) 108-megapixel image sensor, following the lineage of HMX and HM1. This product integrates 108 million pixels in a 1/1.33-inch size.
This product is equipped with Samsung Electronics' proprietary camera technologies such as 'Smart ISO Pro' and 'Super PD Plus,' enabling high-quality photo shooting.
Smart ISO Pro is an HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology that amplifies light with different ISO values and combines them in environments where bright and dark areas are mixed, such as the exit of a tunnel. When ISO is low, it reacts less sensitively to light but improves image quality; conversely, when sensitivity is high, it reacts more sensitively to light, causing noise.
Unlike conventional HDR technology that takes multiple shots at different times and may cause ghosting due to subject movement, Smart ISO Pro minimizes ghosting by using differences in image capture sensitivity.
In particular, in Smart ISO Pro mode, shooting is done in 12-bit (68.7 billion colors), which expands the color expression range by about 64 times compared to the existing 10-bit (1.07 billion colors), enabling richer color representation.
Samsung Electronics also equipped the ISOCELL HM3 with Super PD Plus technology featuring optimized micro lenses. It can detect focus 50% faster than before even in dark environments, allowing for shake-free images.
Additionally, depending on the amount of light, it groups nine adjacent pixels into one to enhance color reproduction and adds noise suppression technology, improving sensitivity by up to 50% compared to previous models.
Through design optimization of the ISOCELL HM3, Samsung Electronics reduced preview mode operating power consumption by about 6% compared to previous models, striving to minimize the energy required for product use.
