View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Amid the public attention on a Blue House petition requesting a ban on 'RPS (Real Person Slash)', which sexualizes male idol members, another petition demanding investigation and punishment for 'deepfake' videos targeting female celebrities has garnered over 200,000 supporters within a day.
On the 12th, a petition titled "Please strongly punish illegal 'deepfake' videos that cause suffering to female celebrities" was posted on the Blue House petition board. Deepfake refers to a technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to synthesize videos by combining the face or body of a specific person.
The problem is that recently, deepfake videos with the faces of certain celebrities have been spreading online, especially in adult videos.
Regarding this, the petitioner pointed out, "Female celebrities are suffering from deepfake technology," adding, "Deepfake is a clear form of sexual violence. Female celebrities have become victims of sexual crimes, and these illegal deepfake videos are also being sold."
They noted, "Deepfake videos can be easily searched on platforms like Google and Twitter, and numerous websites are being created," emphasizing, "Most victims of deepfake videos are Korean female celebrities."
Furthermore, the petitioner stated, "The videos of the female victims are being spread across various social media platforms, growing uncontrollably, and they are suffering from malicious comments such as sexual harassment and humiliation," highlighting, "Among the victims are also minor female celebrities who are just starting their careers."
In conclusion, the petitioner urged, "Given the cruel and blatant exposure of these individuals to sexual crimes in society, we strongly demand strict punishment and investigation of deepfake sites and users."
As of 4:30 PM on the 13th, just one day after the petition was posted, it has received over 250,000 endorsements, meeting the official response criteria of the Blue House.

The RPS issue was brought to public attention recently when rapper Son Simba posted on his Instagram, stating, "There are people who sell and collectively conceal and defend novels and drawings depicting perverted sexual relations involving real people."
The petitioner described RPS as "a sexual crime that depicts sexual intercourse or sexual assault through explicit expressions by featuring real male idols as protagonists in homosexual novels."
They added, "Numerous male celebrities are already being sexualized through this RPS culture," and noted, "Given the nature of idols, whose average age is young, many victims are minors or individuals who have just started their careers. The confusion and pain these young people, whose values are not yet fully formed, endure from exposure to such a cruel sexual violence culture is unimaginable."
The petitioner criticized, "What is even more infuriating is that RPS users are fully aware that their actions are crimes, yet they persist with shameless attitudes such as 'The idol market is maintained because we continue to consume idols, so agencies cannot sue us.' This attitude, which tries to control victims through consumer power and immobilize them, reminds us of the attitudes of many power-based sexual crime perpetrators like those in the Nth Room case."
They strongly urged the government, saying, "Whether the victim is female or male, whether they have power or not, no one should be a sanctuary in the culture of sexual crimes. Please take active administrative measures to investigate and severely punish RPS users as soon as possible. Also, please establish regulatory measures on social media to prevent the distribution of explicit sexual crime novels involving real people."
