Kia Motors-Kakao Mobility Join Forces to Boost Domestic Electric Vehicle Adoption
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Kia Motors and Kakao Mobility have joined forces to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in South Korea. Starting with providing customized mobility solutions to the taxi industry, they plan to jointly lead the era of EV popularization in the country.
On the 13th, Kia Motors and Kakao Mobility announced that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the adoption of eco-friendly electric vehicles at Kia Motors' headquarters in Apgujeong, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both companies, including Kwon Hyuk-ho, Vice President and Head of Domestic Business Division at Kia Motors, and Ahn Gyu-jin, Vice President and Head of Business Division at Kakao Mobility.
This agreement aims to combine Kia Motors' EV technology and infrastructure with Kakao Mobility's mobility platform to enhance convenience and satisfaction for all stakeholders, including taxi operators, passengers, and general drivers. At the same time, it seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to improving air quality through the promotion of eco-friendly vehicles.
First, the two companies plan to minimize the inconvenience and burden on taxi operators throughout the entire process of 'selection-purchase-use-charging' of electric taxis to ensure rapid adoption and settlement of EVs in the taxi industry. Starting with providing customized electric taxi solutions for taxi operators, they intend to explore ways to build an industrial ecosystem and contribute to the popularization of electric vehicles.
To this end, Kia Motors will play a role in areas such as electric vehicles and related technologies, charging infrastructure, battery and vehicle warranties, and maintenance support. Kakao Mobility will provide infrastructure and solutions utilizing its platform. In the long term, they will jointly strive to incorporate various ideas from the taxi industry into the planning stage of Kia's electric PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle) models and discover growth engines for the growth of the EV market and innovation in the mobility industry.
