Mokpo National University Achieves Highest Regular Admission Competition Rate Among National Universities in Jeonnam Region
523 Applicants Sought, 1,257 Applied, Average Ratio 2.40 to 1
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced that as of the closing of the 2021 academic year regular admission application period from the 7th to the 11th, a total of 1,257 applicants applied for 523 recruitment spots, showing an average competition rate of 2.40 to 1 (2.50 to 1 within quota, 0.48 to 1 outside quota). This is the highest figure among national universities in the Jeonnam region.
Looking at the application status divided into Group A and Group D in Mokpo National University's 2021 regular admission, Group A had 388 applicants for 136 spots (2.85 to 1), and Group D had 869 applicants for 387 spots (2.25 to 1).
The highest competition rates by department within quota were 11 to 1 for the Department of Ethics Education, 6.67 to 1 for the Department of Urban and Regional Development, 5.70 to 1 for the Department of Nursing, and 5.69 to 1 for the Department of Business Administration, respectively.
Mokpo National University plans to conduct practical exams (arts and physical education categories) on the 29th as part of the upcoming selection schedule, announce the final successful candidates at 6 p.m. on the 7th of next month, and the registration period for successful applicants will be from the 8th to 4 p.m. on the 10th of next month.

Meanwhile, Mokpo National University, which started as Mokpo Normal School in 1946, boasts a 74-year tradition as a regional central university in the southwestern region, supporting light tuition fees and abundant scholarships.
The tuition fee averages 1,965,000 KRW per semester (ranging from 1,661,000 KRW to 2,122,000 KRW), and according to the 2018 information disclosure, 88.5% of all students receive scholarship benefits, with the scholarship-to-tuition ratio at 84%.

The dormitory fee is about 1,100,000 to 1,200,000 KRW per semester (providing three meals a day, including Saturdays and Sundays), with 50% of the capacity (1,615 people) preferentially assigned to freshmen. Free shuttle buses operate for commuting students from the Gwangju area as well as Naju, Haenam, and Illo in the Jeonnam region.
