This pilot project aims to expand the scope of animals subject to registration, which is currently limited to companion dogs under the current 'Animal Protection Act,' to include cats, in accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' '2020-2024 Comprehensive Animal Welfare Plan.'
There is no age restriction for the target animals, and registration is only possible in the form of an implanted radio-frequency identification device. Owners wishing to register should visit a local animal hospital, which acts as an animal registration agency, with their cat.
The registration fee is 10,000 KRW, and the cost of the implanted electronic chip (which varies by animal hospital) must be paid together.
