'Minari' Youn Yuh-jung Wins Best Supporting Actress at Columbus Critics Association Awards

Youn Yuh-jung, an actress from the film 'Minari,' continued her winning streak ahead of the American Academy Awards.
According to distributor Pan Cinema on the 11th, Youn won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Columbus Critics Association the day before, beating Olivia Colman of 'The Father.' This is her eighth trophy for 'Minari.' She had previously won Best Supporting Actress awards from the Los Angeles (LA), Boston, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Greater Western New York Critics Associations, as well as the Alliance of Women Film Journalists and the Sunset Film Circle Awards. She was also nominated by the San Diego and North Dakota Critics Associations, greatly increasing her chances of Oscar success.
At the highly anticipated National Critics Association Best Supporting Actress award, she placed third with 33 points, behind Maria Bakalova of 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm' (47 points) and Amanda Seyfried of 'Mank' (40 points).

Youn portrayed Soon-ja in 'Minari,' directed by Lee Isaac Chung, based on his autobiographical story. She played the grandmother of a Korean-American family who migrated to Arkansas in the 1980s. She shared the screen with other family members played by Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, and Noel Cho. The film has already been recognized for its artistic merit, winning awards such as the Audience Award and Best Actor (Steven Yeun) at the Denver International Film Festival, the Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, the Audience Award and Actor's Guild Award at the Middleburg Film Festival, and the Audience Award and Jimmy Stewart Legacy Award at the Heartland Film Festival.
