Pohang City, Youth 'AI Education' ... Pohang University of Science and Technology Professors and Students Participate as Mentors
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Pohang City announced on the 10th that it conducted an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mathematics Academy in collaboration with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) for 35 elementary and middle school students in the district at the Career and Academic Support Center on the 9th.
Organized by the Mathematical Data Science Research Institute at POSTECH, this education was conducted online in a non-face-to-face format with participation from mathematics professors and university student mentors.
The students participating in the AI Mathematics Academy will learn the basics of AI mathematics and programming and carry out individual projects over a total of five sessions every Saturday until the 6th of next month. They will study AI algorithms based on mathematical principles and thinking skills rather than the technical aspects of artificial intelligence.

Hyunmi Jo, Director of the Education and Youth Division of Pohang City, stated, "To keep up with rapidly advancing AI technology, simple coding education is insufficient, and the need for education in mathematical concepts, thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities will be emphasized." She added, "We will strive to nurture future talents by providing more diverse AI-related educational content in the future."
