Samsung Display Labor-Management Collective Agreement 'Concluded'... First Among 5 Electronics Affiliates
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung Display will sign a collective bargaining agreement with the labor union on the 14th. Among the five Samsung electronics affiliates, Samsung Display is the first to sign a collective bargaining agreement with a labor union.
According to Samsung Display labor-management relations on the 10th, the company plans to hold a collective bargaining agreement signing ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 14th at Line 7 of the Samsung Display Asan Campus.
On the management side, it is reported that Vice President Kim Beomdong, head of the HR team, will attend instead of the newly appointed CEO Choi Juseon. On the union side, Kim Manjae, chairman of the Korean Metal Workers' Federation under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, which is the upper organization of the Samsung Display Union, along with Kim Jeongran and Lee Changwan, co-chairmen of the Samsung Display Union, will attend.
The Samsung Display Union, officially launched under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions in February last year, began negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement with management in May of the same year, when Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong officially declared the end of 'no union management.'
The labor and management sides went through a total of eight main negotiations, practical negotiations, and representative negotiations, and tentatively agreed on the collective bargaining agreement last month, finalizing it after additional consultations.
Initially, the union demanded 151 clauses including improvements in welfare, wages, and allowance systems, but some were excluded during the negotiation process, and it is known that they finally agreed on 109 clauses.
The final draft reportedly includes provisions guaranteeing union activities, such as recognizing 9,000 hours of paid time off (time off) annually for the Samsung Display Union, which currently has about 1,500 members.

Vice Chairman Lee declared at a public apology press conference in May last year, following the recommendations of the Samsung Compliance Committee, "We will ensure that the phrase 'no union management' is no longer used at Samsung," and "We will strictly comply with labor relations laws and firmly guarantee the three labor rights."
