Busan Gijang-gun Accepts Mail Applications for the 2nd Gijang-type Disaster Basic Income
100,000 KRW per Resident... 161,06 Applicants Completed Out of 173,008 Residents, 92.5%
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “Apply for disaster basic income by mail.”
Busan Gijang-gun is accepting applications for the 2nd Gijang-type disaster basic income by mail for residents facing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Gijang-gun will provide 100,000 KRW in cash per person to all residents in the second round.
The “2nd Gijang-type disaster basic income,” which started online applications on December 1 last year, received applications from 161,06 out of 173,008 eligible residents as of the 7th. This accounts for 92.5% of all residents.
So far, 157,564 people have received 100,000 KRW each via bank transfer, totaling 15.7 billion KRW. This represents 91% of all residents.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Gijang-gun postponed in-person applications and added a mail application method for elderly residents and others who find online applications difficult.
They are sending application guides, application forms, and return envelopes to about 12,000 residents who have not yet applied, encouraging all residents to apply.
Residents registered in Gijang-gun as of November 16 last year (including marriage immigrants, permanent residents, and overseas Koreans) who have not yet applied can choose either online or mail application methods until the 29th of this month.
Gijang-gun plans to complete payments before the Lunar New Year holiday to help residents struggling due to COVID-19.
Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, said, “Although 100,000 KRW per resident is a small amount, I hope it will be a timely relief for Gijang residents facing difficulties due to COVID-19.”
