According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the lowest temperature in Seoul on this day was the second lowest since -19.2°C on January 5, 1986.
This matched the record of -18.6°C on January 15, 2001, making it the second lowest ever recorded.
Currently, a cold wave warning is in effect for most regions nationwide. The inland central region, eastern Jeonbuk, and northern inland Gyeongbuk are experiencing temperatures below -20°C, while other central areas, western Jeonbuk, northern Jeonnam, other parts of Gyeongbuk, and western inland Gyeongnam are seeing very cold weather below -15°C.
The lowest temperatures at major locations are Paju -21.8°C, Incheon -17.5°C, Suwon -18.4°C, Cheorwon -21.9°C, Chuncheon -21.9°C, Daegwallyeong -24.3°C, Cheongju -16.3°C, Daejeon -17.5°C, Jeonju -16.5°C, and Jeju -2.5°C.
According to Automated Weather Station (AWS) data, Hyangrobong in Inje, Gangwon Province, recorded mercury levels dropping to -29.1°C.

The daytime high temperatures will also not rise significantly. The Seoul metropolitan area and Yeongseo region of Gangwon will remain below -10°C, while the Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongbuk regions will stay below -5°C. Winds will blow somewhat strongly, making the wind chill temperature even lower.
