Evaluation of Regional Safety by Ministry of the Interior and Safety for 243 Local Governments Nationwide in 5 Grades; Closer to A Means Excellent Natural Disaster Preparedness and Response System... A Grade Also Receives Additional 2% National Treasury Support Incentive for Typhoon Damage Recovery
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has received the highest grade, A, in the '2020 Regional Safety Diagnosis' conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety targeting 243 local governments nationwide.
In the 'Regional Safety Diagnosis' evaluated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, safety grades are assigned from A to E based on verification of 53 safety diagnosis items including natural disaster risk factors, prevention measures, and facility maintenance for local governments nationwide each year according to the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act.
Seongbuk-gu has established a rapid and accurate situation management system with the Urban Safety Division of the district office as the control tower in case of disasters, while each facility-related department such as the Flood Control Division has continuously inspected and reinforced major disaster prevention facilities such as sewage and drainage systems to improve disaster prevention performance.
Through thorough preventive measures, the district has joined the ranks of A-grade autonomous districts, once again reminding residents that it is a 'Disaster Safety City.'
Seongbuk-gu, which received the highest grade, will receive an additional 2% national treasury support for damage recovery caused by typhoons and other disasters in the future.
