Ulsan Office of Education Provides Free Textbooks for All High School Grades
Expansion to All Grades Starting from the 2021 Academic Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jeonghwan] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will expand the free provision of high school textbooks, currently available for 2nd and 3rd-year high school students since the 2021 academic year, to all high school grades.
The Office of Education has been providing free textbooks to students from low-income families and multi-child households. In 2019, it supported over 400 million KRW for free textbooks for these groups, and in 2020, it provided approximately 1.9 billion KRW (as of August 1, 2020) for 2nd and 3rd-year high school students.
All textbooks used by students according to each school's curriculum will be provided free of charge, and support will continue even if textbooks change due to student transfers.
However, autonomous private schools where the principal decides admission fees and tuition are excluded from the support. Even schools not included in the support target will have textbook costs covered for students from low-income or other priority households, as was done last year.
This year, the target for free textbooks for all high school grades is 30,462 students. The support amount per student is 100,000 KRW, with a total budget of approximately 3.04 billion KRW.
