Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Receives Minister of Agriculture Award in COVID-19 Safe Restaurant Operation Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it was selected as the only excellent institution in Gwangju and Jeonnam in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' '2020 Safe Restaurant Operation Evaluation' and received the Minister's Award.
Gwangsan-gu received a score of 97 in last year's project evaluation of 225 cities, counties, and districts nationwide based on criteria such as designation, promotion, and budget execution of safe restaurants, achieving 2nd place nationwide.
This is interpreted as a high evaluation of Gwangsan-gu's food culture improvement policy promoted amid the infectious disease crisis.
Gwangsan-gu, which was selected as an excellent institution for the 'Food Culture Improvement Project' by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety at the end of last year, has become a two-time winner of excellent institutions for food culture improvement following last year with this award.
Since March last year, Gwangsan-gu has implemented the 'Gwangsan Safe Restaurant Pledge Business' system so that citizens, anxious due to COVID-19, can use restaurants with peace of mind. Restaurant owners pledge and practice five infectious disease prevention activities: ▲daily disinfection ▲wearing masks ▲providing individual plates ▲hygienic management of chopsticks and spoons ▲placing hand sanitizers.
By the end of last year, there were about 230 Gwangsan Safe Restaurant Pledge Businesses, and the number of pledged businesses is steadily increasing.

A Gwangsan-gu official said, "Gwangsan Safe Restaurant, which improves the food culture vulnerable to infectious diseases and spreads consensus, is a system achieved through administrative proposals and voluntary participation of restaurant owners," adding, "We will strive to establish a food culture where citizens can enjoy with peace of mind by helping more businesses participate in the Gwangsan Safe Restaurant pledge movement."
