Gwangju Seo-gu, Deokheung-dong Complex Sports Ground 'Park Golf Course' Completed
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 6th that it has completed the construction of a park golf course near the Deokheung-dong Complex Sports Ground under Gwangsin Bridge.
There are already four existing park golf courses in Gwangju, including the Daesang Park Golf Course in Buk-gu, Cheomdan, and with the completion of the Deokheung-dong park golf course, Seo-gu now effectively has its first park golf course.
The Deokheung-dong park golf course project was promoted with the allocation of about 300 million KRW in national funds to provide various sports spaces for residents and promote health.
To carry out the project, from June to September last year, the district held consultations with related organizations and obtained river occupation permission from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to create 9 holes (7,204.3㎡).
Construction was completed at the end of last year, and a final on-site inspection was conducted on the 5th.
Going forward, the district plans to resume normal operations as soon as possible through rechecking the condition of the planted natural grass vegetation, revising facility operation standards, and appointing managers.
A Seo-gu official said, “With the addition of this park golf course near the Deokheung-dong Complex Sports Ground (soccer field, baseball field, jokgu field), we hope to further contribute to residents’ leisure activities and health promotion.”

Meanwhile, unlike regular golf, park golf is a sport usually played in groups of four in small park-like spaces that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy without burden. The establishment of the Deokheung-dong park golf course is expected to generate great anticipation and positive response not only from users but also from local residents as a new sports category.
