Yeongsangang Environmental Office to Invest 245.8 Billion Won in Sewerage Projects This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 6th that it will invest a total of 245.8 billion KRW in 263 sewerage projects this year.
By securing 231.1 billion KRW in national funds, it plans to complete 32 ongoing projects and support 171 continuing projects and 60 new projects.
Additionally, it will invest 14.7 billion KRW from the watershed fund to partially support project costs borne by local governments in upstream and downstream water source areas.
This year's sewerage budget will be allocated as follows: 89.5 billion KRW for expanding sewage treatment plants (145 projects), 144 billion KRW for sewer pipeline maintenance (121 projects), and 12.3 billion KRW for urban flood prevention projects and sewage reuse projects (13 projects), among others.
By region, 172.9 billion KRW (213 projects) will be allocated to Jeonnam, 13.8 billion KRW (13 projects) to Gwangju, 47.7 billion KRW (28 projects) to Jeju, and 11.4 billion KRW (9 projects) to Namhae and Hadong in Gyeongnam.
In particular, this year, the focus will be on promoting the ‘Urban Flood Prevention Project’ to ensure the safety of local residents and the ‘Water Reuse Facility Installation Project’ to efficiently utilize water resources.
For nine sewerage maintenance priority management areas, including Yeosu Gukdong District and Naju Nampyeong-eup, where there is a risk of flood damage due to urban sewage overflow, a total of 150 billion KRW in national funds will be invested annually in urban flood prevention projects, with 11.8 billion KRW supported this year as a priority.
The Yeongsangang Environmental Office has selected and will support new projects such as using treated sewage from the Yeosu Public Sewage Treatment Facility as industrial water within the Yeosu Industrial Complex and fully reusing wastewater generated from the Hadong Daesong Industrial Complex.
Furthermore, to respond to economic recession and sluggish domestic demand caused by COVID-19, the office plans to promptly allocate the budget from the beginning of the year to encourage early execution.
Through thorough budget and project management, it is expected that more than 63% of the total budget will be executed in the first half of the year in line with the national fiscal execution goals.
