Samsung Health Upgrades 'Step Count Challenge' Feature
[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] Samsung Electronics announced on the 6th that it will upgrade the step challenge feature of its health management application 'Samsung Health' on the 12th to welcome the new year 2021.
Accordingly, the existing 1:1 step count competition will be expanded to allow up to 10 participants including oneself. The global challenge feature, which allows users to compete in step counts with Samsung Health users worldwide, will continue to be available as before.
Users can start a step challenge through the Together menu at the bottom of the Samsung Health app. They can set the challenge title, challenge period, and target step count to compete. Up to 20 challenges can be created simultaneously, enabling family, friends, and colleagues to stay motivated by exercising individually even when apart.
The step counts of users participating in the Samsung Health app's challenge feature were found to be about 22% higher than the average step count of all Samsung Health users. The company explained that this demonstrates how motivation and competition play an important role in achieving goals.
Launched in 2012 with a simple fitness recording feature, Samsung Health has grown into a comprehensive health, wellness, and fitness platform equipped with various functions including diverse exercise content, meditation, sleep patterns, heart rate, and blood pressure monitoring.
In 2020 alone, Samsung Health was used by more than 210 million people worldwide. The calories burned amounted to 3 billion kcal, and the total step count reached 78 trillion steps. When converted to distance, this step count is equivalent to traveling back and forth between the Earth and the Sun 200 times.
