Coway Launches Dual CEO System with Lee Haesun and Seo Jangwon

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheolhyun] Coway (CEO Lee Haeseon) announced on the 5th that it has appointed Vice President Seo Jangwon as the new co-CEO. With this appointment, Coway will operate under a dual CEO system with Lee Haeseon and Seo Jangwon, replacing the previous sole CEO system led by Lee Haeseon. Seo Jangwon is scheduled to be officially appointed as co-CEO at the board meeting in February.
The newly appointed Seo Jangwon graduated from Westminster University in the United States with a degree in Economics and from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is a U.S. licensed attorney and has worked at the law firm Sejong, served as Vice President in charge of Investment Strategy and Communication at Netmarble, CEO of Netmarble Cultural Foundation, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President at Coway’s Management Headquarters. He is recognized internally as a 'strategic planning global expert.'
Coway stated, "In addition to the stable management capabilities of the existing CEO Lee Haeseon, we have appointed Vice President Seo Jangwon as co-CEO to strengthen future strategies and global competitiveness." They added, "Through this, Coway will strategically pursue overcoming internal and external environmental variables caused by COVID-19, enhancing synergy with Netmarble, and laying the foundation for Coway’s global leap."
Coway also conducted its regular executive personnel reshuffle in 2021, promoting and newly appointing a total of 12 executives. This personnel move focused on talent in three areas: global, research and development, and female leadership. Two executives were promoted in the global sector, four in research and development, and three female executives were appointed. In the global sector, Executive Director Park Jaeyoung (Head of Global Corporation Business Division) was promoted to Senior Executive Director, and Deputy Executive Director Choi Giryong (Head of Malaysia Corporation) was promoted to Executive Director.
In research and development, Executive Director Park Chanjeong (Head of Environmental Technology Research Institute) was promoted to Senior Executive Director, and three were newly appointed as Deputy Executive Directors: Oh Juchul (Head of Production Technology Research Office), Choi Indu (Senior Research Fellow), and Baek Joohyun (Head of Development Office).

Three female executives were also promoted or newly appointed, reflecting Coway’s commitment to nurturing female talent. Deputy Executive Director Shim Byeonghee (Head of Marketing Office) was promoted to Executive Director, and Kim Youngjin (Head of IT Service Planning Office) and Na Jihye (Head of Home Care Business Division) were newly appointed as Deputy Executive Directors. Additionally, No Heungsik, Head of the 4th Business Division, became the first executive (Deputy Executive Director) from a field sales background.
