From January 5 to 29, Dongmyung University will conduct a four-week joint class and project in the latest web technology field. The two classrooms are connected via Zoom across the Pacific Ocean.
Software education and collaborative project execution through Zoom is a new trend in global untact cooperation in the COVID-19 era. It is a new model of global software talent development education born in the untact era. Due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, the use of Zoom has evolved beyond simple meeting broadcasting to global learning.
During the four weeks, in the morning, students will learn the latest web technologies such as HTML, Node.js, TypeScript, and Angular from web engineers at the US IT company Bay Valley Tech. In the afternoon, students from both schools form teams to carry out collaborative projects. This is the so-called collaborative class.
On the first day, January 5 at 9:30 AM, an opening event will be held. Dongmyung University Vice President Park Nam-gyu, California State University Dean (Dr. Evans), international exchange directors of both universities (Dr. Caudill, Kwon Jung-rak), Bay Valley Tech CEO, and Dongmyung University SW-Centered University Project Director will give encouragement speeches.
During the four weeks, two professors from California State University and Dongmyung University will provide mentoring. To share information and experiences about global employment and entrepreneurship with Dongmyung University students, weekly Zoom special lectures will be held every Wednesday with Korean senior engineers in Silicon Valley such as Amazon’s Kim Hoon, Google’s Kim Jae-bong, LinkedIn’s Jo Sung-joo, and Nutanix’s Park Jae-kwon.
Professors Lee Kang-hyuk and Jo Mi-kyung from the Department of Game Engineering will provide interpretation support via Zoom.
Earlier, on December 29 last year, 26 people including 11 students from the SW Convergence College of this university, 11 students from the Computer Science Department of California State University, and professors from both universities had a Zoom meeting for introductions.
While introducing themselves, it was an opportunity to gain confidence in the fact that it is possible to acquire world-class advanced software capabilities without having to endure the hardship and expense of traveling to a distant location.
Jeon Gwan, a third-year student in the Department of Game Engineering at Dongmyung University, said, “I hope to overcome my fear of English and improve my software skills and confidence by learning the latest web-related technologies and participating in team projects with American university students.”
Professor Jo Mi-kyung, Director of the Dongmyung University SW-Centered University Project, said, “This will be a pilot and innovative educational model for nurturing global software talents in the untact era and will be the starting point for training Dongmyung University students as global software talents.”
This global Zoom learning is part of the global software talent development program promoted by the university’s SW-Centered University. Dongmyung University is pouring its energy into a global software talent development program that enables software major students to go beyond Busan and reach the world.
