According to AP News on the 4th (local time), a South Korean-flagged oil tanker heading to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) appears to have entered Iranian territorial waters and been seized.
AP cited the ship information site 'MarineTraffic' in reporting this.
According to MarineTraffic data, the South Korean-flagged oil tanker 'MT Hanguk Kemiho' was spotted near Bandar Abbas, a southern city of Iran, in the afternoon of the same day. AP reported that the vessel was moving from Saudi Arabia toward Fujairah in the UAE.
So far, there has been no contact with the shipowners, and Iranian authorities have not made any statements regarding the vessel.
According to AP, the British security firm Ambrey stated that the ship appears to have been seized. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), operated by the British Navy, confirmed that there was an 'interaction' between Iranian authorities and a merchant ship, resulting in the vessel altering its course toward Iranian territorial waters.
