Choi Jin-hwan, SKB President: "Growing as a Platform Company... Let's Jump Outside the Fence"
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] Choi Jin-hwan, CEO of SK Broadband, stated, "This year, we must boldly step outside the fence and pursue new growth."
According to SK Broadband, CEO Choi said at the New Year's ceremony held online on the afternoon of the 4th, "Let's create SK Broadband version 3.0 by growing into a digital platform company through expanded customer relationships."
First, CEO Choi presented four key themes for this year's growth strategy: "deeper and broader relationships with customers," "mobile-centered process innovation," "aiming to become a platform company beyond telecommunications and paid broadcasting operators," and "business model (BM) expansion through ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance)."
He emphasized the importance of mobile by saying, "While infrastructure up to customers' doorsteps is important, now we must strive to find new BMs inside the home such as Wi-Fi, IPTV, and artificial intelligence (AI). Especially, mobile has long been the core tool not only for media content consumption but for all process innovations."
He continued, "We see the keywords of media environment change as 'OTT,' 'digital,' and 'cloud,' and we will prepare new BMs focusing on entertainment platform business, digital advertising platform business, and global data center business," adding, "Let's actively participate in solving social issues such as ESG to create sustainable growth."
CEO Choi said, "If the telephone and high-speed internet business is version 1.0, and the period when paid broadcasting business was added is version 2.0, I want to call the current changes SK Broadband version 3.0," emphasizing again, "SK Broadband as a platform business will look completely different."
